Skip Schrock, a lifelong musician, dedicated public servant, and cherished family member, passed away in Missouri, surrounded by family on June 16, 2026.
Skip was a former member of DC’s Different Drummers, playing saxophone with the Symphonic Band and Jazz Band (which at the time was known as “DC Swing!”). When Skip moved to DC for work, he joined the DCDD, performing with us for a few years and making quite an impact, especially on the swing band.
When his work in DC concluded, Skip moved back to Kansas City, where he played with the Mid-America Freedom Band, conducting their concert band and “Mighty MO Jazz Orchestra.” DCDD members were always glad to see Skip when he made it to one of the Pride Band Alliance conferences, typically playing in the jazz bands.

We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of our dear friend, Skip Schrock.
Skip’s laughter was infectious, his kindness was genuine, and his love of music brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to know him. As a leader, mentor, musician, and friend, he helped shape Mid America Freedom Band into the community it is today.
His legacy lives on in every note we play, every friendship formed through this organization, and every life he touched along the way.
We will miss you dearly, Skip. Thank you for the music, the laughter, and the love. ❤️
